  • August 28 & 29 2014: Conference “The Ethics of Poverty Alleviation”

The aim of this conference is to explore the ethical issues concerned with the conceptualisation, design and implementation of poverty alleviation measures from the local to the global level. It wants to bring together these topics with the ongoing debates on global justice and to ask what an ethical or normative philosophical perspective can add to the social scientifc, economic and political approaches that dominate poverty alleviation
The keynote lectures will be given by two internationally renowned experts: Sabina Alkire, director of the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI), a research centre within the Department of International Development, University of Oxford, and Darrel Moellendorf, recently appointed professor in International Political Theory at the University of Frankfurt.
