Graduate Stories

Graduates from the Masters Program have moved on towards successful starts in careers ranging from industry to management to academia. A selection of their stories are given below: Barrierefreiheit: Kurzbeschreibung des Bildes Alex – Graduate 2018 Having grown up in England, I always enjoyed travelling and I wanted to use my education to broaden not only my scientific but also my cultural horizons. After completing my Bachelor’s Degree in Materials Science at the University of Cambridge, I decided to join the CPM course because I wanted to study abroad and the course offered a range of scientific subjects taught in English. I enjoyed the interdisciplinary nature of the course, studying the interplay between physics and chemistry with a mixture of theoretical and applied topics. I also found the Master Thesis a great opportunity to apply my knowledge and experience real research. Barrierefreiheit: Kurzbeschreibung des BildesThomas – Graduate 2017 During the master program I got deep insights in different material characterization techniques, like spectroscopy, microscopy, diffraction and also thermal analysis but also interesting other chemistry and/or solid state physics based topics. A large part was dedicated to functional materials exhibiting unique electrical, thermal or optical properties mostly based on the nanoscale, which was quite fascinating and is also state-of-the art research as well as implemented in industrial applications. Some of my student colleagues decided to join the public economy sector but because of my personal interest in nanomaterials, I decided to start a PhD after graduating the master program. On the basis of my experience I can recommend this international and interdisciplinary master program, since it prepares for both, a following PhD as well as the start in the public economy sector. Chat – Graduate 2017 Barrierefreiheit: Kurzbeschreibung des BildesMy name is Chatpawee Taniteerawong or just ‘Chat’ for short. I come from Thailand and am a proud alumna of the CPM master program. After I graduated, I‘ve been working in the R&D of Tyrolit Schleifmittelwerke, one of the world’s leading abrasive manufacturers. I can proudly say that the knowledge and experience earned from the program greatly benefit my work and my industrial career. Marcel – Graduate 2019
Barrierefreiheit: Kurzbeschreibung des Bildes
After studying Engineering in Salzburg and Munich I wanted to learn more about structure-property relations of materials and how these are used to find new applications of such functional materials. The master’s program CPM covers both issues and further provided a broad knowledge on materials science. The curriculum is divided into several modules, which allowed me to deepen fields of my personal interest. Those are the use of biomaterials, applications in biochemistry and bio-nano interactions. After graduation I started to work in the development department of Stratec Consumables, where I can apply the knowledge and methods I have acquired in the master’s course.
