Tales Tomaz wrote his doctoral thesis at the Universidade de São Paulo and was a lecturer at a Brazilian private university until 2018. For political reasons, he left Brazil and now he is a research associate at the Division of Media Policy and Media Economics. In his research and teaching activities he focuses mainly on critical political-economic and philosophical aspects of digital media. Currently, his research interests include the economic impact of platformization on news media structure and the economics of alternative Digital Information Intermediaries based on Free and Open-Source Software. He is project manager of “ Euromedia Ownership Monitor“, a project funded by the EU Commission. He was assistant in the project “ Media for Democracy Monitor 2021 (MDM)“, having edited its three books with Josef Trappel.
