Division Public Spheres and Inequalities

The division of Public Spheres and Inequalities is concerned with the study of public spheres and inequalities at the macro, meso and micro levels, with a particular focus on globalization and digitalization. The thematic fields include inequality and global communication, asymmetries and postcolonial theories, (digital) publics in polarized societies, media, activism and social movements, transformation and protest communication, and media and migration. In the fields of study, intersectionality is an important concept that looks at exclusion and inclusion in publics as well as partial and counterpublics based on different categories such as gender, class, religion, or migration background. In research, these interactions are analyzed in different international contexts.
