Webinar with Sara Shaban on Feminism, Activism and Islam in the Media

The Department of Public Spheres and Inequalities kicked off the new year with a special online event: On the 9th of January, Dr. Sara Shaban, Assistant Professor of Journalism at Seattle Pacific University, gave a webinar on Feminism, Activism and Islam in the Media. She touched upon the protest movement in Iran and the portrayal of the Global South in the Western media.

Iranian Feminism and Transnational Ethics in Media Discourse

” It’s not about giving a voice to the voiceless, because people in Iran, women, do have a voice and somebody heard it. It’s about amplifying the voices and bringing them to our (western) community.“

(Sara Shaban)

Her new book  Iranian Feminism and Transnational Ethics in Media Discourse also explores the interactions between media, women’s movements and geopolitics in the Middle East.
