Biomolecules in Health and Disease
The „DSP Biomolecules in Health and Disease“ fits well within the guiding principle „Health and Mind“ of the PLUS, and will strengthen the interaction of biomedical and clinical research within one DSP. A critical mass of local experts will work closely together, to train PhD students in a wide range of complementary disciplines, which will enable the fellows to tackle highly relevant questions in basic as well as translational research, with cutting edge technologies. The DSP will offer training opportunities such as special lectures and training courses, seminars, summer- and winter schools, and individual mentoring programs for each PhD-student, while focusing on basic and translational questions relating to biomolecules. Within the DSP Biomolecules and Health we plan to study molecular mechanisms that regulate cellular communication, to investigate how the microenvironment shapes immune responses that might promote or help to ameliorate pathologies, with the overall aim to identify novel therapeutic targets. This DSP constitutes an important addition to the teaching landscape of biological sciences at the PLUS, enhancing the scientific quality and visibility of biomedical research at the PLUS, in Salzburg and beyond in order to attract the most qualified students from Austria.
