Arno Strohmeyer is the new director of the Institute for Habsburg and Balkan Studies

Univ.-Prof. Dr. Arno Strohmeyer, Department of History at the PLUS, took over the post of Director of the  “Institute for Habsburg and Balkan Studies” (IHB) at the Austrian Academy of Sciences on 1 April 2021.

With around 50 staff, the IHB is the leading international institution for research on the Habsburg Monarchy and the Balkan region. The Institute is defined by its interdisciplinary approach, which combines history, linguistics, anthropology and art history. Arno Strohmeyer has headed the “Digital Historiography and Editions” research area at the IHB since 2017.

In addition to research, the cooperation between the IHB and the Department of History also focuses on teaching and the promotion of academic talent.
