JOB DESCRIPTION (Postdoctoral Research Fellow) 

The successful candidate will join the international consortium of ACTEU that studies public trust in institutions and is led by the Universities of Saarland and Duisburg.  ACTEU seeks to map and investigate problems of declining trust, legitimacy and representation in Europe with particular attention to the polarization of societies and the EU’s multi-level structures.

The advertised position is based at the University of Salzburg with the Professorship in Politics & Gender, Diversity & Equality, which contributes to the project ACTEU with the analysis of the gender dimension for the whole project for all work packages (e.g., participation, legitimacy) and co-leads work package 4, which examines the relationship between political representation and trust in political institutions.

This is a 70 % postdoctoral position, which focuses on research including research management activities. The successful candidate will be able to:

  • conduct independent and collaborative research
  • present the findings of ACTEU at international conferences
  • publish in international peer-reviewed outlets
  • communicate with university administration, project coordinators and other partners

Optional: The successful candidate may be given the opportunity to conduct additional (paid) teaching for the Basic/Supplementary/Specialization Programs in Gender, Diversity, and Equality.

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

  • completed doctoral studies in Political Science, Political Sociology or related disciplines in the Social Sciences
  • advanced methodological skills and experience with quantitative survey analysis
  • familiarity with the scientific literatures on: political representation and ideally also politics and gender
  • excellent spoken and written English
  • social and communication skills, as well as demonstrated administrative and organizational skills, incl. self-direction
