Simon Oertel: new professor at the Faculty of Law

Since the beginning of the winter semester 2021/22, Univ.-Prof. Dr. Simon Oertel has been heading the Strategic Management and Organisation Unit at the Department of Social and Economic Sciences, part of the Faculty of Law here at the PLUS.

Topics covered in his courses include various aspects and theories of strategic management and organisation. His teaching is fundamentally theory-based and has a direct practical relevance.

In research, he is concerned with questions of change in organisations, industries and institutions. This includes research on organisational and institutional change, imprinting, organisational identity, the strategic positioning of organisations in markets and the adoption of structures and practices in organisations.

Simon Oertel studied Business Administration and Political Science at the University of Applied Sciences Trier and the University of Erfurt. After completing his studies, he worked as a research assistant for the Chair of Organization, Leadership, and Human Resource Management (Prof. Dr. Peter Walgenbach) at the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena (2010-2019) and then as an academic councillor in the Research Group Management & Organization (Prof. Dr. Norbert Bach) at TU Ilmenau (2019-2021). After his doctorate at Friedrich Schiller University Jena and during his subsequent postdoctoral research, he spent time at Vienna University of Economics and Business and Stanford University.

Simon Oertel is married and has three children. He enjoys students’ keen curiosity, working closely with colleagues and, of course, the city of Salzburg itself.
