Postdoc Position in Political Science at the University of Salzburg / Salzburg Centre of European Union Studies (SCEUS) The project “The Domestic Politics of EU Action against Democratic Backsliding”, led by Prof. Dr. Michael Blauberger, has a vacancy for a postdoctoral researcher (3-year fixed term contract). Project description: The project, which is funded by the Austrian Science Foundation (FWF) and part of a collaborative Weave project with partners in Germany (Bremen) and Poland (Wrocław), analyzes how domestic factors – party positions and public opinion – affect the European Union’s ability to act effectively against democratic backsliding. Profile: Applicants should have
  • a very good PhD in political science or a closely related discipline,
  • strong methodological skills,
  • excellent command of English,
  • reliability, and
  • a research agenda that is broadly related to the project.
The successful candidate will be part of an international team, collaborating on all theoretical and empirical aspects of the project, co-supervising student research assistants with two other postdocs in Bremen and Wrocław, and contributing to project publications, individually and with other project members. The position: The position is for three years, with an intended start date of May 1, 2025. The working time is 40 hours per week (100%). The salary, which includes health and occupational insurance, is in accordance with the Austrian collective bargaining agreement for university employees (bracket B1b, currently EUR 4.932 gross, monthly salary, paid 14 times a year). Project funds for conferences, research travels and career development are available.
