About the research group

In the Lepperdinger Lab, we study the impact of cellular aging on the structure and function of tissues, particularly human bone marrow (as a reservoir and niche for stem cells, blood formation, and immune competence). Our research focuses on designing and engineering 3D-biology-compatible bioreactors and organ-on-chip systems for the (co-)cultivation of human cells. Specific aims are to establish human-physiological experimental systems to investigate mechanisms underlying aging-related deficiencies while simultaneously reducing and replacing animal testing.

Responsibilities:

  • Scientific support in research and teaching in the fields of biomedical aging research, cell biology, human longevity, and health.
  • Independent teaching in molecular cell biology and genetics (4 semester hours per week in German and English).
  • Participation and lead in research projects focusing on stem cell research, 3D biology, and biochip-based cell and organ-on-chip analyses.
  • Contribution to administrative tasks, conferences, and international networking.

Essential criteria:

  • Completed doctoral degree in biosciences, human or veterinary medicine, or a related field.
  • Research and teaching experience in molecular cell biology and biochemical analysis.
  • Proficiency in German and English, both written and spoken.

Desirable criteria:

  • A critical approach to theory-oriented and technique-based teaching in topics such as biomedical aging research, developmental biology, molecular cell biology, and cell-based bioanalytics.
  • Experience in interdisciplinary national and international research projects.
  • Experience organizing scientific events and co-supervising theses and dissertations.
  • Publications in international journals
  • Aspired career in academic research as a research-focused university lecturer or independent principal investigator

Desired personal attributes:

  • Independent, meticulous, and team-oriented.
  • Initiative and openness to interdisciplinary approaches, particularly clinical content.
  • Social skills (motivation, communication, creativity, reliability).
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development (subject-specific and teaching-related).

Application requirements:Applications should be submitted electronically as a single PDF file and include:

  • Curriculum vitae.
  • Doctoral certificate, including a complete transcript of records.
  • Cover letter detailing your fit for the position and your motivation for teaching, research, and third-mission activities.
