Markus Gastinger is Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow at the Chair of International Politics and has joined the University of Salzburg in October 2019. He holds a PhD from the European University Institute in Florence (2010–2014). Before that, he has completed the master program in European Union Studies at the Salzburg Centre of European Union Studies (Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence). From 2014–2019, he was Research and Teaching Associate at the Technical University of Dresden, one of eleven Universities of Excellence in Germany. His research centers on international relations (IR) and EU external relations drawing on rational choice institutionalism. His work has appeared in international peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of European Public Policy, the Journal of Common Market Studies, and European Political Science. Furthermore, he has acquired practical experience during a traineeship (“blue book stagiaire”) at the European Commission in Brussels and at the Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik in Berlin.
