Douglas Atkinson is a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Political Science. He received his PhD from the University of Georgia in 2018. His research largely focuses on interstate conflict and war. Within the study of these topics he largely tries to find answers to two questions: 1) How do the issues under dispute affect states’ strategic behavior during war? 2) And, how do leaders respond to wartime domestic political considerations and what affect does this have on the battlefield? In addition to his substantive focuses, he is interested in applying quantitative methods to forecasting interstate conflict as well the application of mixed methodologies.
