The Biographical Location of Interreligious Processes in the Life and Works of Raimon Panikkar (1918–2010) – a Centenary Symposium
June 12th – June 13th 2018, University of Salzburg
(Faculty of Catholic Theology, Universitätsplatz 1, 5020 Salzburg) – HS 103/HS122
Raimon Panikkar (2.11.1918 – 26.8.2010) was one of the most illustrious and prolific Christian interreligious thinkers of the 20th century. Rooted in two cultures and religions (Christianity and Hinduism) by birth, his life unfolded between the Mediterranean Sea and the Pacific Ocean, the Tiber and the Ganges, the Pyrenees and the Himalayas. He formulated a universal philosophy of man, the Divine and the Cosmos (cosmotheanthropic mystery) while at the same time honoring the particular cultures and religions. As a teacher he attracted people of all cultures, he was a spiritual and academic guide. This symposium focuses on the correlation between his life and thought, looking at different aspects in this relationship, and thus asking for the inspirational legacy and relevance of his life and work for today from a philosophical, theological, religious studies and a spiritual point of view.
