Karl Böhm Collection

Bild von Karl Böhms FrackIn 1917, Karl Böhm conducted his first opera in Graz, launching an unprecedented career that brought him international acclaim and, not least, was to link him closely to the city of Salzburg and its festival.

Exactly one hundred years later in 2017, the heirs of his son Karlheinz Böhm presented the University of Salzburg with a unique collection that gives a very vivid impression of the professional and private life of the famous conductor.

In addition to books and study scores, the collection includes correspondence, life documents, notebooks, appointment calendars, guest books, personal items, photos and newspaper clippings. In addition, the numerous prizes and honours, orders and medals with the corresponding documents and certificates bear witness to Böhm’s international successes. Numerous portraits in various sizes and techniques round off the collection.
