The Barrier Immunology Lab led by Philipp Starkl has a strong interest in infectious diseases and their interplay with type 2 immune response and granulocytes, particularly mast cells and eosinophils. We combine in vivo models of microbial infections and inflammatory diseases with in vitro primary cell approaches to better understand molecular mechanisms and consequences of inflammatory imprinting. The Starkl lab builds on profound experience in experimental immunology to realize ambitious basic research projects with high medical relevance.
