CIVIS Blended Intensive Programmes – Winter Semester 2026 Applications Now Open!!

Applications for the CIVIS Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs) for winter semester 2026 are now open to regular students at the University of Salzburg.
BIPs combine online coursework with a short physical mobility abroad — a distinctive format for students seeking international academic experience without committing to a full semester exchange. For winter semester 2026, the CIVIS Alliance is offering around 15 BIPs hosted by leading universities across Europe.

Funding
Please note: selection for a BIP does not automatically guarantee funding. Once accepted into a programme, you must submit a separate funding application to the CIVIS Mobility Unit at the University of Salzburg once you get selected for the BIP. Funding is subject to available budget for mobilities.

CIVIS Creathon 2026 – Fake It Till You News It: Call for Papers
The CIVIS Student Council is organizing the CIVIS Creathon 2026 – “Fake It Till You News It: Challenges and Solutions in Modern Media”, an event addressed to students from all universities of the CIVIS Alliance, within the framework of this year’s student-led projects.
The initiative is part of the Alliance’s efforts to promote collaboration, innovation, and interdisciplinary engagement within the student community.
The aim of the Creathon is to foster skills in problem-solving, critical thinking, and teamwork. The event focuses on key issues such as misinformation, disinformation, fake news, media credibility, and public trust. Participants are invited to develop well-documented, innovative, and applicable proposals aimed at addressing these challenges and improving the quality of information.
Participating teams are required to prepare and submit their final paper by April 19, 2026, and will present their proposals during CIVIS Days 2026. Each university may be represented by one team, consisting of 2 to 8 students. The selected team will represent its university at the event, and funding will be provided for up to two team members to attend the CIVIS Days in Bucharest.

Interested students are invited to apply by April 19, 2026, by preparing and submitting their final paper in accordance with the Creathon Paper Instructions.

Throwback on the International Week 2026
As part of International Week 2026 from 23-27 March, the CIVIS European University Alliance hosted several events at the University of Salzburg, offering a comprehensive look at what the alliance has to offer to students, faculty, and administrative staff.
The event focused on personal experiences and milestones achieved, as well as the question of what specific opportunities CIVIS has created: from Blended Intensive Programs (BIPs) and virtual mobility formats to joint teaching and research collaborations. The series kicked off on Monday, March 23, with a panel discussion titled “Four Years of CIVIS Alliance at the University of Salzburg: What has changed?„. Moderated by Eva Léchelle, CIVIS Institutional Coordinator, the panelists reflected on four years of CIVIS at the University of Salzburg. Participants included CIVIS Academic Coordinator Prof. Dr. Martin Knoll, Head of the Career Center Dr. Martin Mader, and the two students Ariane Schleifer, who had gained international mobility experience through CIVIS, and Maja Münch, Student Representative in the CIVIS Student Council.
On Thursday, March 26, two additional sessions took place. “Connecting Minds: CIVIS Opportunities for Staff and Teaching Collaboration,” presented by Erika Blaschke and Elisabeth Kleinlerchner and was aimed at faculty and administrative staff. Various mobility formats, such as job shadowingespecially for administrative staff, were introduced, along with opportunities for research and HEI collaboration, including BIPs and asynchronous courses.Therefore Dr. Margareta Strasser (Head of the Language Centre) and Dr. Martin Loidl (Head of Mobility Lab, Department of Geoinformatics) provided specific insights from their practical experience. The session concluded with a Q&A session in which the needs and wishes of the PLUS community for future CIVIS activities were gathered.
This was followed by a session led by Egzona Krasniqi and Tim Schötz titled “Blended Intensive Programs – Application Process & Student Experiences,” which was specifically aimed at students. In addition to a practical introduction to the structure, funding, and application process of BIPs, the session focused on a student’s testimonial, in which he shared his personal BIP experience and was then available to answer questions from the participants.The International Week 2026 provided an overview of the numerous opportunities offered by CIVIS at the University of Salzburg, ranging from an institutional perspective and opportunities for staff to accessible mobility programs for students.
The University of Salzburg used the International Week 2026 also to invite students and staff to the local TRACEE kick-off event to officially mark the launch of the CIVIS Joint Master’s Programme in Transdisciplinary Studies of Climate, Environment and Energy.
On Wednesday, students, accompanied by lecturers from Salzburg and from the CIVIS partner university, the Université Libre de Bruxelles, attended a full-day excursion in the Federal State of Salzburg to gain first thematic insights into the course content on site. On Thursday, programme-specific workshops took place in small groups.
To conclude the three-day kick-off, the Vice-Rector for Education and Student Experience, Prof. Michaela Rückl, welcomed attendees on behalf of the Rectorate of our university on Friday morning to a celebratory closing event, which invited interested students, academics and non-academic staff from the University of Salzburg to learn from TRACEE lecturers and students details about the development of this first CIVIS Joint Master’s Programme. In short individual presentations, various phases of the development were highlighted and questions answered, such as: How did the programme progress from the initial idea to its design and launch, and how is the current implementation proceeding?

CIVIS Call für Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs)
Die CIVIS-Allianz hat ihren siebten Call for Proposals für Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs) veröffentlicht. Lehrende aller CIVIS-Mitgliedsuniversitäten sind eingeladen, gemeinsam innovative BIPs für Studierende im CIVIS-Netzwerk zu entwickeln. Auch Kolleg*innen von nicht Erasmus+-assoziierten CIVIS-Universitäten (University of Glasgow, University of Lausanne sowie die afrikanischen Partneruniversitäten) sind zur Teilnahme eingeladen.
Was ist ein BIP?
Ein BIP kombiniert virtuelle Lernformate mit einer kurzen Phase physischer Mobilität. Erfolgreiche Teilnehmer*innen erhalten zwischen 3 und 9 ECTS, abhängig von Arbeitsaufwand und Lernergebnissen. Die Anerkennung erfolgt durch die jeweilige Heimuniversität. Lehrende müssen während der Präsenzphase mindestens 8 Stunden unterrichten. Die Inhalte der BIPs sollen sich an den zentralen CIVIS-Themen orientieren:
- Klima, Umwelt und Energie
- Gesellschaft, Kultur, Kulturerbe
- Gesundheit
- Städte, Räume und Mobilität
- Digitaler und technologischer Wandel
Zeitplan
Einreichfrist: 14. November 2025 (geschlossen)
Umsetzungszeitraum der CIVIS BIPs: 1. Oktober 2026 bis 31. Juli 2027
Wichtige Hinweise
Für jede teilnehmende Institution ist ein „Letter of Intent“ erforderlich. Dieser sollte frühzeitig organisiert werden, da interne Genehmigungsprozesse mehr Zeit in Anspruch nehmen können.
Für afrikanische Partner gelten besondere Regelungen. Interessierte werden gebeten, sich direkt mit uns in Verbindung zu setzen.

CIVIS Call für Educational Activities 2025
Die CIVIS-Allianz hat ihren Call for Educational Activities 2025 veröffentlicht. Er bietet die Möglichkeit, gemeinsam mit anderen CIVIS-Mitgliedsuniversitäten innovative Bildungsprojekte zu entwickeln.
Gemeinsame Studienprogramme (Strand 1)
Entwicklung neuer oder Überarbeitung bestehender gemeinsamer Bachelor-, Master- oder Doktoratsprogramme mit einer klaren Ausrichtung auf das zukünftige Joint European Degree Label.
Modulare Weiterbildung & Micro-Credentials (Strand 2)
- Micro-Credentials
- Virtuelle Austauschformate (z. COIL – Collaborative Online International Learning)
- Doktoratsbezogene Aktivitäten
Verknüpfung modularer Lerneinheiten (Strand 3)
Bestehende CIVIS-Lerneinheiten sollen zu Learning Paths verbunden werden, die zu Zertifikaten, Micro-Credentials oder sogar gemeinsamen Abschlüssen führen.

WICHTIGER HINWEIS: Mitglieder der strategischen Partneruniversitäten in Afrika sind eingeladen, an allen durch diesen Call unterstützten Aktivitäten teilzunehmen. Sie können jedoch keine direkten Mittel aus diesem Call erhalten. Deshalb wird empfohlen, dass sie selbst oder ihre Partner an europäischen CIVIS-Universitäten ergänzende Finanzierungsquellen für ihre Zusammenarbeit prüfen.
