2nd International Conference on the Church of the East in China and Central Asia 2006

The second Salzburg International Conference, titled “Research on the Church of the East in China and Central Asia”, took place in Salzburg from 1 to 6 June 2006. Again, it brought together scholars from a wide range of disciplines, including Religious and Ecclesiastical History, Philology (Sinology and Syriac Studies), Archaeology, Central Asian Studies, Theology, and others. The conference provided a fruitful interdisciplinary exchange of recent research, exploring the subject in detail and from multiple perspectives.
At this conference, the organization was entrusted to Dietmar W. Winkler, who had been appointed to the University of Salzburg as Professor of Early Christian Literature (Patristics) and History of Christianity, succeeding Peter L. Hofrichter, and to Li Tang, an expert in oriental Christian languages and literatures with particular focus on Christianity during the Tang dynasty. The two subsequently established an internationally renowned conference series and a network of experts.
