6th International Conference on the Church of the East in China and Central Asia 2019

The 2019 meeting, held for the first time outside Salzburg, enabled the active participation of scholars from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Mongolia. In doing so, it significantly strengthened the integration of Central Asian expertise into the field.
From June 20 to 27, 2019, distinguished scholars from Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, China, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, India, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Russia, Singapore, Switzerland, Turkey, and the United States gathered in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
Organized by ZECO in cooperation with the Department of Nestorian Studies of the Archaeological Institute of the Kazakh Academy of Sciences, and in close collaboration with further regional partners, the conference marked an important step in fostering international and regional academic exchange.
The location in Central Asia also made it possible to visit recent archaeological excavations, including those at Ilibalyk and its Christian cemetery, thereby directly connecting ongoing fieldwork with scholarly exchange.
