Ein besonderes Highlight  gibt es am Freitag den 9. Juli um 09.00 Uhr im Audimax an der Naturwissenschaftlichen Fakultät mit einem Vortrag von Ed Parsons, dem Google Maps und Google Earth Chef Technologen und seinem Impulsreferat „Beyond Maps, building the annotated world“.

Dieser Vortrag dürfte nicht nur für Geoinformatik-Experten von großem Interesse sein, hielt die Anwendung von Google Earth und Google Maps und das erst kürzlich medial diskutierte Street View von Google schon längst Einzug in unseren Alltag.

“Internet mapping applications such as Google Maps and Google Earth represent not only highly popular interactive tools to visualise geospatial data, they are also the gateways to geospatial publishing and discovery services which form a platform for the creation of modern federated spatial data infrastructures(SDI´s). These modern SDI´s are distinct from the traditional design prototypes of SDI in that they reflect the actual needs of their user community who are also the source for much of their content. The community content may be actively and explicitly contributed in the form of volunteered geographic information or increasing will come from the implicit contributions of users acting as geographic sensors.“

Ed Parsons ist als Geospatial Technologist von Google, mitunter verantwortlich für Google Earth, Google Maps and Google Maps for Mobile.

Davor war Ed der erste Chief-Technologist in der 200 Jahre alten Geschichte des Katasterwesens und EMEA Applications Manager für GIS bei Autodesk. Während seiner Tätigkeit bei Autodesk war er aktiv am Erfolg von Autodesk als weltweit wichtiger Vertreiber von GIS Software beteiligt.

Ed erhielt seinen Master am Cranfield Institute of Technology/London und ist Mitglied der Royal Geographical Society. Er ist Autor zahlreicher Artikel und von Fachbeiträgen, sein Weblog www.edparsons.com  ist einer der populärsten in der Geopatial-Welt.
