Field trip to Greece April 2014
On the island Lesbos, Greece, we study the effect of visual and olfactory salience of flowers on bee behavior in the Mediterranean ecosystem.
Cooperation partners: Aphrodite Kantsa, Theodora Petanidou, Nico Blüthgen and Christoph Stenftenagel.

The project is funded by the DAAD.

Field trip to Hawaii November 2013 – May 2014

In Hawaii, we worked on different projects focusing on the effects of invasive species on local ecosystems and the ecology and evolution of endemic species:
1.) Phenotypic adaptations of the endemic tree Metrosideros polymorpha on invasive flower visitors.
2.) Structure and distribution of bacterial communities colonizing flowers and leaves of Metrosideros polymorpha
 
3.) Niche sizes and overlap of endemic and invasive insects and their competition potential for floral resources

4.) Distribution of invasive ants along an elevational and environmental gradient
