14 December: Lecture “Creating Ethical Business” with Simone De Colle
Simone De Colle is Associate Professor of Business Ethics & Strategy at the IÉSEG School of Management (France) and co-author of Stakeholder Theory: The State of the Art, with R. Edward Freeman et al., published in 2010 by Cambridge University Press (Link on Research Gate).
This lecture will focus on the main concepts and practical application of stakeholder theory (R.E. Freeman et al., 2010) and discuss its meaning in relation to the dominant paradigm of “Shareholder value primacy”. Recent criticism to “shareholder ideology” from corporate law (L. Stout, 2012) and economics (J. Nelson, 2006; Mackey-Sisodia, 2012) will also be discussed. Stakeholder theory challenges the dominant story about business and suggests a new understanding of the purpose of business organizations.
