22.3. – Gastvortrag: Saline pond metacommunities: from local stressors to landscape connectivity

Dr. Horváth ist Postdoc Researcher in der Arbeitsgruppe AQUASCALE am WasserCluster Lunz.
Abstract:
Sodic waters represent unique ecosystems in Central Europe, not only by being the only saline inland waters in this region, but also because their ionic composition is unique on the European scale. My research focuses on the effect of salinity on biodiversity and ecosystem functioning in soda pans, the role of wind dispersal among these temporary waters, the effect of connectivity loss on biodiversity, and the role of secondary habitats (sodic bomb crater ponds) in biodiversity conservation. I will present why understanding the drivers not only within but also beyond the physical boundaries of the local habitats is crucial for their long-term conservation.
After the seminar (ca. 16:00 h), everybody is welcome to join us for drinks and munchies in the „coffee corner on the second floor“.
