Christian Smigiel | First long-term study on short-term rentals in Austria

Short-term rentals are a key urban and housing policy issue in many cities. A team led by Christian Smigiel used social science methods to analyze market developments, stakeholders, and regulations in the city of Salzburg for the period 2018-2025. Among other things, the study shows that regulations and controls are effective. At the same time, there are evasive maneuvers and newer developments. An executive summary of the study is availablehttps://www.plus.ac.at/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Executive_Summary_STR_2025.pdf (German)
