CIVIS: Slavic Language Café

Thursdays, 9 October to 11 December, 2025 | 12:00–12:50 CET | Online via Zoom | Poster

Do you speak Polish, Russian, Czech, Ukrainian, Croatian, or another Slavic language at B1 level or higher? Then you are warmly invited to join the Slavic Language Café, taking place every Thursday from 9 October to 11 December.

NEW: Language Café for Slavic Languages: We’re excited to expand our multilingual Language Café offerings! In addition to the Romance Language Café, we now also organise a café for Slavic languages. This online café brings together language enthusiasts from across Europe. Participants speak different Slavic languages — one person might speak Polish, another Russian and another Czech — and switching between languages is not only permitted, it is welcomed! Thanks to the similarities between Slavic languages, mutual understanding is possible. This creates a vibrant, multilingual environment in which you can put your language skills into practice and discover new or related languages.

So, whether you want to practise your skills, explore new languages or simply want to find out how mutual understanding works, join us for this unique plurilingual experience!

You will learn how to express yourself clearly and understandably, particularly when communicating with people who don’t speak your language. Helpful strategies include:

  • Speaking slowly and clearly
  • Repeating and rephrasing information
  • Using words that are transparent across Slavic languages
  • Using gestures and facial expressions

Time & Place: Thursdays, 12:00–12:50 CET, via Zoom
Cost: free of charge for all members of the CIVIS Alliance, i.e. all students and employees of the University of Salzburg
More Info & Zoom Link:  www.su.se/sprakstudion/slaviccafe
Registration: No registration required – just join via the Zoom link at the scheduled time and take part!

The café is jointly organised by Språkstudion of Stockholm University and the Language Centre / Department of Slavonic Studies of the University of Salzburg as part of the CIVIS University Alliance.

We look forward to seeing you there!
