CLEVER-AI meeting in Limerick: Cooperation partnership on the critical use of AI in language education
From 22 to 24 April, the first transnational working meeting as part of the CLEVER-AI project took place at the University of Limerick, attended by representatives from the partner institutions Université de La Réunion, University of Limerick, University of Salzburg, Université catholique de Louvain, University of Strasbourg and Eurac Research.
CLEVER-AI stands for “Citoyenneté et pluriLinguisme – Pour une Éducation aux Valeurs et un Engagement Responsable avec les systèmes artificiels d’Intelligence / Citizenship, pluriLingual Education, Values and Engagement through a Responsible use of AI”. CLEVER-AI is a cooperation partnership in the field of higher education (2025-1-FR01-KA220-HED-000358119) and is co-funded by the European Commission (Agence nationale Erasmus+ France) under the Erasmus+ programme.
The first physical meeting was dedicated to preparing an international survey among language learners and teachers on the use of generative AI in language teaching. The aim is to gain in-depth insights into the beliefs and practices of using AI for language teaching and learning. The next project meeting will take place in Bolzano at the end of October.
Project objectives
Over the three years of collaboration, CLEVER-AI aims to achieve the following objectives:
- to better understand how language learners and teachers use Gen-AI;
- to describe the competences required for the critical and ethical use of Gen-AI in language teaching and the promotion of multilingualism;
- to support teachers with practical tools for the integration of generative AI into the development of laction-oriented and plurilingual competences;
- to promote a conscious and reflective approach to AI in language learning, teaching and use.
The report on the survey results, framework to include action-oriented language competences with a plurilingual dimension through a critical use of GenA, and teaching materials will be developed and published on the project website.
