Digital Childhoods in a Complex Digital World: CIVIS Doctoral Webinars 2025/26
The University of Salzburg is taking part in an international CIVIS doctoral webinar series on “Challenges of Digital and Technological Transformations: Childhood and Youth in a Complex Digital World” in the summer semester 2026. The annual online series brings together researchers from several CIVIS universities to discuss how digital technologies are reshaping the lives of children and yound people, their families and communities across Europe.
Program February – June 2026
From February to June 2026, one 90-minute webinar will take place on a Friday each month (usually at 10am / 11am), concluding with a joint roundtable. Confirmed speakers include:
20th of February 2026: Bridgette Wessels (University of Glasgow), “Growing up with digital technologies in families with low incomes: childhood and family experiences in Scotland”.
20th of March 2026: Dimitris Gouscos (National and Kapodistrian University of Athens), “Children participation(s) in digital transformations”.
24th of April 2026: Elena Pérez-Hernández (Universidad Autónoma de Madrid), “Digital literacy for social equity among adolescents”.
22nd of May 2026: Gottfried Schweiger (University of Salzburg), “Adolescence and the ethics of trustworthy AI”.
18th of June 2026: Joint Roundtable with all speakers.
Requirements / Registration
The webinar series is open to doctoral and other postgraduate students from all CIVIS universities, with a maximum of 150 participants. The course is held entirely online; participants need access to a videoconferencing platfrom, and a reading packet will be provided. To obtain 1 ECTS, students must attend at least four out of five sessions and complete the associated workload.
