PEP: Publication of the “Encyclopaedia of Plurilingual Education”

The members of the European PEP project (Erasmus+) are pleased to announce the publication of the “Encyclopaedia of Plurilingual Education / Encyclopédie de l’éducation plurilingue” (edited by Christian Ollivier and Sílvia Melo-Pfeifer), a bilingual reference work for everyone interested in plurilingual education. The volume brings together key contributions on plurilingual education in French and English and is aimed at researchers, teachers, students and education professionals.

The publication offers a rigorous yet accessible overview designed to deepen theoretical knowledge, advance professional competencies and open up innovative perspectives on plurilingual approaches. More than one hundred authors, internationally recognised experts in their fields, have contributed to the work. In concise two- to three-page articles, they introduce around one hundred concepts from the field of plurilingual education. The English and French texts are original contributions by different authors and thus reflect diverse, complementary and sometimes divergent perspectives.

PEP: Promoting plurilingual education in secondary and higher education

The PEP project “ Promouvoir l’éducation plurilingue / Promoting plurilingual education” (Erasmus+, 2023-1-FR01-KA220-HED-000160820) aims to promote plurilingualism in language teaching and learning. In line with the guidelines of European language policy, the project he project aims to open up opportunities for social and democratic participation by preserving and promoting plurilingualism. It focuses on plurilingual and intercultural education in language education, in accordance with the implementation of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Key objectives:

  • To provide an overview of existing plurilingual practices
  • To offer adaptable teaching materials
  • To combine theory and practice in a reference work
  • To establish a Wikiversity/Wikiversité section on plurilingualism
  • To develop further training courses and teaching guides

To achieve these objectives,various publications have been or are being produced, including the ‘Encyclopaedia of Plurilingual Education’ described above. The materials are available on the project’s homepage under the „ Productions“ section.

The project is a cooperation partnership between seven European universities. It is coordinated by the Université de La Réunion; the University of Salzburg is co-coordinating institution and is represented by the team of the Language Centre.
