Abstract:
In this cross-sectional study, we investigated the IgE sensitization profile of 501 adolescents from Salzburg using an allergen microarray. 54% were IgE sensitized to at least one allergen molecule and pupils most frequently reacted to components from grass, birch, house dust mite and cat. 22% of study participants also reported to suffer from clinical symptoms, while residual sensitized individuals can be considered a high risk group for development of symptoms. Thus, using molecule-based diagnosis enables determining relevant biomarkers and monitoring the atopic status in populations.
