A Warm Welcome to the University of Salzburg!
From 23 February to 6 March 2026, we warmly welcome all first-year students to Welcome Weeks. During this time, all first-year students will gain a comprehensive insight into life and studying in Salzburg. You can look forward to a varied programme with helpful information about starting your studies, exciting events to get to know the university, and numerous services and support offers. In addition, there are numerous events that make it easier to get started and enable you to make your first contacts.

Welcome in Salzburg
You won’t learn everything in an hour online, but we will explain the most important initial points to you. For example, what the first steps are when you arrive in the city of Salzburg, why the curriculum will be your first required reading, what your student ID card can do, and how to get from A to B in the city of Salzburg. This will prepare you for the start of your studies!

Austrian Student Union – Representation of interests and services for students
This short presentation provides a concise overview of the tasks, opportunities for involvement and services offered by the Austrian Student Union (ÖH) at the University of Salzburg for students. Among other things, it will cover advisory services, financial support and the role of the ÖH as a representative body at university and national level.

Equality in higher education
The Family, Gender, Disability & Diversity department offers information, support and events on topics such as studying with disabilities/chronic illnesses, balancing studies and childcare or care work, gender diversity and career advancement, as well as respectful coexistence in a diverse environment. Sport workshop Capoiera
Capoeira – an ancient martial art, national sport and philosophy of life from Brazil – is now an internationally practised sport and recognised world cultural heritage. It is exciting, fascinating, lively, challenging and versatile: sport, music, art and culture in one discipline. Capoeira keeps you moving, in rhythm, in harmony and in contact; it makes you fit and confident. Join in!

Your rights as a student – orientation in student law
This short presentation provides a concise overview of students’ key rights and obligations. Among other things, it focuses on the regulations governing the organisation of studies and examinations. In addition, the ÖH Advice Centre will be presented as the first point of contact for questions relating to study law.

Spring hike
If you want to enjoy a beautiful view in a short time and with relatively little effort, this spring hike to the Ellmaustein is just the thing for you!

After a light breakfast together, we will take the bus to Fuschl and hike up the Ellmaustein. The hike will not take place in bad weather!

Quidditch trial training for students
Quadball (formerly Quidditch) is an inclusive, action-packed team sport that combines elements of handball, rugby and dodgeball – and is instantly fun thanks to its broomstick feature. Fairness, team spirit and a diverse mix of players create an open, motivating atmosphere. Today, Quadball is played worldwide and offers just the right blend of intensity, tactics and community.

‘Just a Minute’ – Taming time: University & beyond / Taming time: University & everyday life
Description: This is also the first session of the transdisciplinary course ‘Time, Art, Community’. So if you enjoyed it and are interested in further discussions and methods, you are welcome to register. However, the event is designed in such a way that it is also suitable for those who only want to participate this one time.

TheaterLaborX. Our House – with Andreas Steudtner & Kinga Szemessy
Description: TheaterLaborX runs all year round on Monday evenings and sees itself as an open rehearsal space for all theatre enthusiasts. The X marks the multiple intersections that arise when people meet under the banner of a common interest. Among other things, choreography, writing, speaking, role-playing, games and thematic settings are practised and tried out, with preferences taken into account.
