The Asia Pacific Forum (FOR APAC) was established in 2022 as the successor to the former China Center at the University of Salzburg with the aim of continuing and further developing interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary collaborations in research, teaching, and the university’s third mission with regard to the Asia-Pacific region, as well as with individual and institutional partners from that region. The members of the Forum include both scholars from various faculties at the University of Salzburg with teaching and research experience in this region, as well as administrative staff familiar with the Asian region.
Currently, FOR APAC offers the Asia Pacific Studies minor/concentration, including a lecture series, as well as summer schools that have been established for over twenty years and culture-related events (such as a joint Spring Festival for China, Japan, and South Korea, a regular get-together for international students, etc.). Advising and supporting outgoing students traveling to China, Japan, and South Korea is also one of FOR APAC’s key responsibilities.
