Compulsory testing for classroom teaching and examinations

In accordance with § 1 para. 1 of the Federal Act on Special Provisions in line with the legal framework for higher education at Universities, Universities of Teacher Education and Universities of Applied Sciences due to COVID-19 (2nd COVID-19 Higher Education Act – 2 C-HG, Federal Law Gazette II No. 76/2021), the Rectorate, after consultation with the chairpersons of the University Council, the Senate and the University Students’ Representative Body, shall be adopting new regulations. Among other things, the 2nd COVID-19 Higher Education Act states the requirement for compulsory testing at universities.

In future, self-tests will no longer be recognised for classroom teaching (including one-to-one sessions) and examinations held in attendance, but students and lecturers will have to prove a negative test result, for example by taking a test at one of the test stations or pharmacies. This regulation shall come into force on Monday, 26 April. Students without proof will not be allowed to take part in classroom teaching.

Apart from the exceptions already in force, courses and examinations will continue to take place online, so students must have the opportunity to complete the semester in this way as well.
