The Department of Political Science and Sociology, Professorship for Politics of the European Union, and the Salzburg Centre of European Union Studies (SCEUS) solicit applications for one postdoc/university assistant position:

  • Planned Start of employment: negotiable, but ideally: 1st of March 2021
  • Duration of employment: 4 Years
  • Employment level in hours per week: 40
  • Working Time: by arrangement
  • Monthly remuneration: 3.889,50 gross (14 times per year);
  • Areas of responsibility: independent academic research, support the research, teaching and administrative duties of the Professorship for Politics of the European Union; independent teaching (4 hours per week/semester); excellent independent research in an area related to the professorship and participation in research projects, the organisation of events and peer-reviewed publications. The candidate has the possibility to gain further qualifications (Habilitation) during the duration of the position.

Employment requirements:  

  • Completed doctoral studies in Political Sciences.
  • Experience in teaching independent courses.
  • Publications in international peer-reviewed journals in the area of European Union politics.
  • Excellent methodological skills in qualitative methods.
  • Fluency to teach and research in English.
  • Excellent organizational skills.

Desired qualifications and personal characteristics:

  • Familiarity with the academic debates and independent research profile in one or several of these areas: institutions of the European Union; areas of EU policy-making;populism in the EU from a multilevel perspective.
  • Knowledge of other social science methods, including network analysis and/or mixed methods.
  • Experience in the acquisition and management of research grants.
  • Interest in developing interdisciplinary forms of cooperation within the Salzburg Centre of European Union Studies (SCEUS).
  • German language is an asset.
  • Desired personal characteristics: social competence and reliability; ability to work in a team; flexibility and ability to work under pressure; high level of commitment to academic work.
