The Department of Psychology is seeking an assistant professor for Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology in accordance with the Austrian Universities Act (Universitätsgesetz), Austrian Salaried Employees Act (Angestelltengesetz) and § 27 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement for University Employees (Kollektivvertrag der Universitäten). After fulfilling the requirements laid out in the qualification agreement, they receive a tenured contract as associate professor.

Responsibilities:   

  • Achievement of individually agreed upon qualification targets within a specified timeframe;
  • independent research and teaching;
  • providing academic support in research and teaching, as well as participation in administrative tasks in the Department of Psychology, in psychology study programmes, particularly in the area of clinical child and adolescent psychology;
  • teaching of four hours per week per semester (eight hours per week once tenure is granted) in Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes, with a focus on aetiology, diagnostics, epidemiology and/or psychotherapeutic interventions for mental disorders in children and adolescents;
  • independent supervision of doctoral candidates, Master’s students and Bachelor’s students;
  • scientific work in the field of clinical child and adolescent psychology;
  • participation in the university outpatient clinic of the Department of Psychology;
  • acquisition of competitive third-party funding.

 

Employment requirements:

  • Doctoral degree in psychology and at least partial publication of the thesis;
  • proven independent scientific research and publication activity in the field of clinical child and adolescent psychology;
  • experience in third-party funding acquisition and university teaching;
  • very good knowledge of German and English;
  • relevant teaching experience;
  • relevant practical clinical experience.

 

Desirable and additional qualifications:

  • Registration or the possibility of registration in the near future (possibly on the basis of equivalent training outside of Austria) in the Austrian professional register (“Berufsliste”) of clinical psychologists or psychotherapists;
  • experience in academic self-administration;
  • experience in third mission activities;
  • experience in coordination and academic science management;
  • professional networking skills (both on a national and international level);
  • at least one year of professional academic experience outside the University of Salzburg (preferably abroad);
  • research experience with aetiological, diagnostic, clinical psychological and/or psychotherapeutic issues and methods or procedures;
  • willingness to participate in third mission projects and activities (e.g. science communication, public relations, theory-practice transfer, university outpatient clinic).

 

Desirable personal qualities:

  • Social skills, reliabilty, leadership and teamwork skills, proficient and respectful interaction with students.

Duration of contract: 6 years. Tenure is granted upon fulfilment of the agreed-upon qualifications (associate professor). Salary scheme: A2 according to § 49 sec. 2 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement; monthly salary € 5.595,60 gross (14 payments per year). If the qualification agreement is not concluded at the beginning of the start date, the salary scheme is B1 according to § 49 sec. 3b) of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, monthly salary: € 4.752,30 gross (14 payments per year).
