Research in the Materials Chemistry Group

  • Porous Materials

Porous Materials: Sol-gel chemical approaches towards highly porous materials, e.g. silica, titania, carbon or even methyl silsesquioxanes. The art of designing porosity and materials properties.

  • Carbon Spherogels

Carbon Spherogels: A unique, microporous and monolithic carbon aerogel material solely composed out of nano-sized hollow spheres. The interior void space allows us to introduce a broad variety of additional functionalities, such as titania, iron, sulfur, gold NPs, etc. (featuring hybrid Carbon Spherogels). In succession, we investigate (hybrid) Carbon Spherogels for their potential in application fields like energy storage, catalysis or adsorption.
