Processes and modeling

Processes

Mountain belts, sedimentary basins, valleys, and all structures within the Earth’s crust produce specific patterns, which can be traced back to geological processes.
Numerical models help to analyse the relationships between tectonics, climate, and erosion, at time-scales of millions of years. Debris flows, avalanches and landslides, however, operate at much shorter time scales. Numerical modelling of such processes, as well as their impact on alpine infrastructure, is a further focus of our research.
