What is a BIP?
Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs) are a new format of Erasmus+ mobility. BIPs are short, intensive programmes that use innovative forms of learning and teaching, including both face to face and virtual activities. Every BIP combines online teaching with a short period of physical mobility, where you can spend one week at another university with students from across the CIVIS Alliance. By combining online sessions with a short trip for face-to-face teaching, this innovative format opens up opportunities for international study to new groups of students.

Why should I participate in a CIVIS BIP?
A CIVIS Blended Intensive Programme offers a unique opportunity to gain international experience, enhance cross-cultural understanding, and explore diverse teaching methods from experts at partner universities. This program offers a cost-effective alternative to traditional exchanges, allowing you to earn ECTS credits that are recognized by your home institution. -
How do I get informed that there is an open Call for students to participate in a BIP?
There will be several waves of BIP openings, each with its own application period. You will be informed about these opportunities through our communication channels, such as emails, newsletters, and social media. Additionally, it’s a good idea to regularly check the CIVIS website: CIVIS courses – CIVIS – A European Civic University. -
How can I apply for a CIVIS BIP?
Applications for BIPs are made through the CIVIS mobility portal, accessible via the CIVIS Course Catalogue. Each application period offers a different selection of courses, so apply as soon as you find one that interests you.
Eligibility criteria, including study cycle, field of study, and language requirements, are detailed on each course’s webpage under the “Practical Details” section. Some BIPs are aimed at specific study cycles or fields, while others are open to all students—be sure to check the requirements before applying.
The student applications for BIPs are centrally evaluated. If you get accepted in a BIP, your home university will be noticed and you will be contacted on further steps, including funding information. -
Can my participation in the CIVIS BIP be funded?
Yes, your participation in a CIVIS BIP can be funded through Erasmus+ funding scheme. The funding covers travel and a daily lumpsum which you can use to cover your accommodation and other needs during the physical mobility period.
More information on funding for BIPs can be found here: https://www.plus.ac.at/abteilung-fuer-internationale-beziehungen/buero-fuer-internationale-beziehungen/service-fuer-studierende/ins-ausland/bip/ -
Can I recognize the CIVIS BIP at my home university?
Yes, CIVIS BIPs are recognised by all CIVIS member universities, and you can earn 3 to 9 ECTS credits for participation.
If you get accepted in a particular BIP, we strongly recommend you get in touch with the CuKo of your department at PLUS, as they will be able to advice you on course recognition of that BIP at PLUS.
The BIP programme can only be recognised if it has been successfully completed, which implies the student shall carry out and complete the two components of the BIP (the mandatory virtual component and the face-to-face or mobility component), as well as the assessment.

Who is my contact person for unclarities on BIP related issues at PLUS?
