  • Where can I go?

    Where you can go depends on the exchange programme you would like to participate in.

  • Who can apply for an exchange?

    All regularly inscribed students at Salzburg University can apply for an exchange after having successfully completed at least one year of studies.
  • What exchange programmes are available?

    The University of Salzburg enables student exchange through the following programmes:
    Erasmus+: EU and selected non-EU countries
    SEMP: Switzerland
    Study Abroad: partner universities worldwide
    ISEP (International Student Exchange Program): higher education institutions within the ISEP network
    further NON-Erasmus Short-Term Scholarships
  • What is the process of applying for a student exchange?

    Checklist:
    Choose a partner university from the list
    Contact your department’s exchange coordinator (contact data in the above list)
    Put together your application documents (passport, confirmation of registration; diploma and language certificate if necessary)
    Await nomination by your coordinator
    Create a list of your planned courses during your stay (Learning Agreement)
    Have accreditation of said courses confirmed by curricular commission at Salzburg University
    Make a financial plan for your stay
    – For recipients of study allowance (Studienbeihilfe): request additional financial support (Auslandsbeihilfe)
    – For Study Abroad programme: apply for Study Abroad grant
    Check if you have proper insurance:
    ÖH insurance (accident and liability insurance)
    social insurance inside EU/EER/Switzerland
    Private international health insurance (recommended especially outside the EU)
    Receive admission letter from your partner university
    Apply for a visa if necessary
    Book housing
    If needed, request study fee waiver at International Office
  • When are the deadlines for applications?

    Winter semester: June 1st & November 15th
    Summer semester: February 1st & April 1st
  • How much will my grant be?

    Please note: Applicants employed by Salzburg University who take paid vacation for their exchange and earn a net salary of over 730€ will only receive 50% of the determined grant.
  • How long can my stay be?

    Depending on the exchange programme, the following options may be available:
    – short-term stays (2 days–3 months)
    – one or two semesters
    The upper limit is one academic year.
  • What additional costs will I have to consider?

    No study fees at partner university, but additional costs for living, transportation, insurance, visa if needed
  • Do I need to take out insurance for my exchange?

    ÖH insurance: By paying the ÖH fee, students are insured in case of accident or liability.

    EU, EER, Switzerland: Austrian health insurance generally also applies within these regions. However, the costs of medical care can be quite high, so we recommend additional (private) international health insurance.
  • I am a third-state national. What should I take into account?

    You may have to apply for a visa or residence permit for your exchange. Additionally, a valid Austrian residence permit is required. Please acquire any relevant information about your residence permit and educate yourself about the possibilities for extension in advance.

  • Can I complete multiple exchanges during my study?

    Yes! You can make use of each study programme once during a given study cycle (Bachelor’s, Master’s or doctorate). Multiple programmes or short-term stays may be combined, provided your field of study’s curriculum and accreditation standards allow it. Check in advance with your curricular commission and the International Office which combinations are possible and how courses will be accredited.
  • Will the courses I complete during my exchange be accredited at Salzburg University?

    Yes. Your department’s curricular commission is responsible for the accreditation of courses. It is recommended to check with the chairperson beforehand which courses will be accredited and how.
  • What kind of scholarship can I apply for?

    Which exchange programme is right for you depends on your interest, destination, desired duration and type of mobility. Please find further information here: Grant Programs
  • How many ECTS do I need to complete during my stay?

    The general requirement for grant entitlement is the completion of 3 ECTS per started month of mobility. However, this guideline may differ. Your Grant Agreement should contain the relevant information.
  • What documents do I need to submit after my stay?

    Please submit the following documents within 2 months upon your return:
    – Letter of confirmation (Auslandsaufenthaltsbestätigung)
    – Transcript of Records from your host university
    – report of your experience or short video/reel for the International Office’s Instagram page
    – confirmation of accreditation (Anerkennungsbescheid)
