Environmental management
Our environmental management systems (EMAS & ISO 14001) are management systems that include the organisational structure, responsibilities, behaviours, formal procedures, processes and resources for defining and implementing our environmental mission statement.
The Paris Lodron University of Salzburg has been certified according to the two environmental management systems EMAS and ISO 14001 since 2016. The scope is constantly being expanded. ISO 14001 is an international standard and EMAS is an EU regulation.
EMAS stands for Eco Management and Audit Scheme and is an instrument developed by the European Communities in 1993 for companies that want to improve their environmental performance. The current legal basis is Regulation (EC) No. 1221/2009, which came into force on 11 January 2010. The structure of an environmental management system (EMS) and the processes have also been in line with ISO 14001 for EMAS since 2001. In 2017, the latest amendment to the EMAS III regulation was adopted, which, like the ISO 14001:2015 amendment, requires greater involvement of all stakeholders.
However, EMAS goes beyond a pure management system! EMAS is performance-orientated!
The Paris Lodron University of Salzburg is obliged to draw up an annual environmental statement in which it presents the relevant activities and environmental data, such as resource and energy consumption, emissions, waste, etc., in detail.
