Employee survey on the topic of work and health
The university would like to thank all employees who took part in this year’s health survey.
Your feedback is a valuable contribution – not only to the further development of our health programmes, but also to the improvement of working conditions at the university.
The results will be carefully analysed during the summer months (Institute for Health Promotion and Prevention, IfGP). Publication of the results is planned for the autumn.
Once the analysis has been completed, the health circles will be set up on behalf of the steering group. In the health circles, health issues in the university organisation are discussed and measures are developed. The meetings of the health circles are moderated by a health circle leader. The leader summarises the results and presents them to the steering group, which decides on the implementation of the measures.
Finally, a second health report is drawn up. This documents the results and reviews the extent to which the objectives have been achieved. In this way, the structure for sustainable health management is further strengthened and the health factor is expanded as part of the management and organisational culture.
If YOU are interested in participating in a health circle at your faculty or department – please contact HR – Personnel Development, Dr. Daniela Werndl, DW 2471.

What is a health circle?
Motivation
The idea behind health circles is the realisation that activating the creative and motivational potential of employees can make a decisive contribution to achieving goals – in this case the goal of ‘health’ – in the organisation. As a rule, the employees themselves know best where and what is lacking or ailing and can make a very effective contribution to maintaining or restoring health.
Composition
Health circle moderator is an employee selected and trained for this task or an external moderator
Participants are employees (4 – 8 people) from the same or different hierarchical levels who come from work areas with the same or similar activities
Tasks of a health circle
– Determining factors that are detrimental to work, but also those that promote health, in accordance with the mandate and objectives set by the steering committee and by contributing their own experiences
– Analysing the resulting health resources and stresses
– Development of technical, organisational and personal suggestions for improvement and solutions
– Summarising the stresses and proposed solutions in a report, whereby the urgency and importance are to be assessed.
How does a health circle work?
Circle meetings are held once a week to once a month for approx. 2 hours over a certain period – at least 3 to 6 months
Circle moderator presents the report to the steering committee, which decides on the realisation of the proposed solutions and approves measures for implementation.

What means Occupational health management?
Occupational health management (OHM) is the development, control and optimisation of structures and processes for shaping health in the company. It aims to maintain and promote employees’ health and ability to work. OHM is characterised by the goal-oriented and sustainable interlocking of measures in the three fields of action of employee protection, workplace health promotion and workplace integration management with the active participation of the workforce at all levels of the company.
-
What means Workplace health promotion?
As one of the three fields of action in OHM, workplace health promotion (WHP) strengthens the health, well-being and ability to work of employees in the workplace.
WHP is a corporate strategy for maintaining and improving the physical, mental and social performance and well-being of all employees. The motivation and health of all employees is sustainably promoted through resource-strengthening working conditions and support for quality of life in the workplace. In addition, the company’s productivity, product and service quality and innovative capacity are increased. Healthier employees are happier, more productive and more motivated and healthy companies are economically stronger!
A ‘win-win situation’ is created between the university and its employees. The university’s image as a ‘healthy workplace’ in terms of corporate social responsibility and employer branding is improved.

Award of the BGF seal of quality
The BGF seal of quality for workplace health promotion is awarded by the Austrian Network BGF (ÖNBGF) – an association of social insurance institutions and social partners – with the support of the Healthy Austria Fund. It is the official Austrian quality label for companies that systematically and permanently implement measures for a healthier working environment.
The University of Salzburg was awarded the BGF seal of quality for the first time for the period 2016 – 2019 with the transfer of the PLUSbewegt project to regular operations.
With the further development of workplace health promotion into university-wide structured health management, the BGF seal of approval was acquired for two further periods
(2019 – 2022 and 2022 – 2024).

Health Days
From 2014 to 2022, an annual Health Day was organised at the University of Salzburg with a thematic focus. These events were jointly organised by internal university departments such as the Occupational Health Service, Works Council 2, the FGDD department, the University Library, the University Sports Institute and Human Resources Development. With the support of BVAEB or Mensen GmbH, the respective programme could be made even more attractive. At these events, initiatives, services and new challenges in the context of occupational health management were presented to university employees in order to encourage their broad participation.
‘Staircase instead of lift’ campaign
The workplace health promotion programme “PLUSbewegt” ran the ‘Staircase instead of lift’ campaign in spring 2017.
This was organised in cooperation with our network partners Stadt & Land Salzburg, Salzburger Landeskliniken and FH Puch/Urstein, where the campaign was launched at the same time.
Posters were hung in front of and in all lifts in the university buildings with lifts (where structurally possible) to make the positive effects of climbing stairs ‘palatable’ to employees in a humorous and informative way.
In addition to strengthening the leg muscles, increasing calorie consumption and strengthening the cardiovascular system, the positive effects included the fact that it was easy to do without any aids – apart from your own muscle strength. In addition, the personal use of energy saved energy elsewhere, as each skipped lift ride saved electricity.
