The development of the kindergarten system in the province of Salzburg from 1945 to 1985

The research project focusses on political and educational science discourses relating to pre-school education and upbringing as well as the role and significance of the family and public institutions. The project pays particular attention to the question of the position of women as mothers in the context of family, work and politics, which is reflected on the one hand in the aforementioned discourses and on the other hand in the experiences of mothers, parents, women and men in politics, but also among educational professionals in elementary educational institutions. To this end, intensive research is carried out in the Salzburg archives (especially the Salzburg Provincial Archives; Archdiocese of Salzburg Archives) and specialist scientific writings from the period mentioned are analysed. These results on the political and professional level will be contrasted with the experiences and lifeworlds of mothers and former kindergarten teachers and those responsible in the Salzburg state and city government during the period under investigation.
