Sprachkurs

International students can choose from a wide range of language courses and complementary activities at the Language Centre. In addition to developing language skills, the programme promotes inter-/transcultural encounters, networking, collaborative learning and individual support through language advising.

  • Intercultural communication and conflict solutions

    For international students: In this course, participants acquire fundamental knowledge of intercultural communication. They learn to better understand cultural differences, engage with diversity in a reflective way, and communicate confidently in international contexts. The course is offered in cooperation with Bowling Green State University (BGSU) and is free of charge for participants. The language of instruction is English.

  • Culture and language: Austria and more

    For learners of German: This course offers insights into the culture, language and society of Austria and other German-speaking countries. Personal cultural discoveries, discussions and a variety of interactive activities encourage intercultural/transcultural exchange while helping participants develop their communicative skills.

  • Learn Romance languages through networking

    For participants with proficiency in a Romance language at B1 level or above: This course helps participants develop reading and listening comprehension skills in additional Romance languages. They learn how to make strategic use of their existing language knowledge and further develop independent language learning strategies.

  • Language advising for all languages

    For all students enrolled in a language course at the Language Centre during the current academic year: The course supports autonomous language learning. Through individual guidance, reflection on the learning process, and the use of a variety of learning resources and opportunities, participants can further develop their language skills in a targeted and effective way.

  • Online language café for Romance languages

    For students and staff of the University of Salzburg: This free Romance languages café offers a space for multilingual communication in Romance languages. Participants (B1 level or above in any Romance language) can practise their skills in a relaxed, informal setting, engaging in intercultural exchange and collaborative learning with language enthusiasts from across the CIVIS network.

  • Online language café for Slavic languages

    For students and staff of the University of Salzburg: The free Slavic language café offered within the CIVIS University Alliance offers a space for multilingual communication in Slavic languages. Participants (B1 level or above in any Slavic language) can practise and refresh their skills in an informal setting, engage in intercultural exchange, and explore other Slavic languages.

  • Language Meetup

    For anyone interested in languages: The free Language Meetup offers participants the opportunity to practise their language skills, discover new languages and connect with other language enthusiasts. Open to all proficiency levels, it provides a welcoming space for language practice, intercultural exchange and collaborative learning.

  • Tandem − language learning partnerships

    For participants in Language Centre courses and staff of the University of Salzburg: The Language Learning Partnership programme brings together learners who would like to practise languages with one another and learn from each other’s linguistic and cultural backgrounds. It offers an opportunity to develop language skills through regular exchange and authentic communication.

    Important note: Participation is voluntary. While every effort is made to match participants, a language learning partner cannot be guaranteed. For course participants, available languages are currently limited to those offered by the Language Centre.
