Bachelor studies

Bachelor’s thesis

Bachelor’s theses are independent written assignments that must be completed as part of a seminar. This is possible in every seminar that is designated for this purpose in the respective curriculum. However, the head of the seminar is entitled to limit the number of Bachelor’s theses to be supervised within a seminar. The choice of topic and the realisation of the thesis is carried out in consultation with and under the guidance of the head of the seminar. Dissertation defence

Admission to the dissertation defence requires the positive completion of all courses and special achievements as well as a positive assessment of the dissertation. The public defence of the dissertation is conducted by an examination board. The main supervisor chairs the examination board. The two other members of the committee are to be appointed by the Dean. The main supervisor, the secondary supervisor and the doctoral candidate may submit proposals for the composition of the examination board.

The dissertation defence begins with the presentation of the contents and results of the dissertation by the doctoral candidate. The members of the examination board then discuss the contents of the dissertation with the doctoral candidate with the aim of evaluating their mastery of the subject area. This is followed by a general public discussion.
