Bio
Dr. Meike Bukowski (Dr. rer. pol.), an ecological economist, is a Senior Scientist and Postdoc at the Department of Social Geography and Sociology at the Paris Lodron University of Salzburg, as well as at the Centre for Ethics and Poverty Research. She conducts research and teaches—across teacher education, Bachelor’s, and Master’s programs—on topics related to ecological economics with a spatial focus, environmental and climate justice, affordable and environmentally/climate-friendly housing, and urban inequalities (cf. Bukowski, Kreissl 2022). A key aspect of her work involves translating these topics into educational contexts, such as school curricula.
Dr. Bukowski leads and co-leads several independent research projects, including “SDGVisionpath” and the focus area 2 “Wellbeing Monitoring” within the UniNEtZ initiative. Her research emphasizes participatory and co-creative modeling, with a focus on SDGs 1 and 10, SDG monitoring, and the development of qualitative indicators (cf. https://sdg.visionpath.at/). Her extensive expertise in international sustainability research has been shaped by diverse research and teaching experiences in Brazil, Tanzania, Zanzibar, the USA, Denmark, and other countries.
She also contributes to the UN’s UNITAR Higher Education Sustainability Initiative (HESI) and supports initiatives such as the Club of Rome, both nationally and internationally (e.g., Earth4All, SDG Science Summit, New York, UNGA 78). Dr. Bukowski earned her doctorate at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg, in the Department of Ecological Economics, under the supervision of Prof. Siebenhüner. In addition to her research, she taught in the Master’s program “Sustainability, Economics and Management” (SEM), focusing on “International Sustainability Management” and “Practical Methods in Sustainability Science.”
