Short Bio

Andreas Koch is a Full Professor for Human Geography at the University of Salzburg (PLUS). He holds a Diploma in Geography, Political Science and Spatial Planning from Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich (1993). He received his PhD from RWTH Aachen with a thesis about the impact of electronic banking on spatial relationships (1996). His habilitation (venia docendi) was dedicated to a system theoretical approach in geographical space contexts, which he obtained at RWTH Aachen (2004). He was a research fellow at the Vienna University of Economics and Business (2000) and guest lecturer at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (2008) and the University of Bucharest, Department of Political Sciences (2018).A close collaboration exists with Umeå University (Sweden) and Carleton University (Canada). Andreas Koch is co-chair of the Center for Ethics and Poverty Research at PLUS.

Research Interests

Geographies of poverty and inequality, local community engagement, rural peripheries, spatial modeling and simulation
