Applications for the performance-based scholarship for the academic year 2024/25 can now be submitted.

General Information

Eligibility Requirements

  • Who can apply for a performance-based scholarship?

    Eligible applicants include: 
    – Students with Austrian citizenship 
    – Individuals with equivalent status under  § 4 of the Student Support Act (StudFG) (e.g., EU/EEA citizens, third-country nationals with a permanent residence card, stateless persons, refugees) 
  • What requirements must be met?

    – Completion of the standard duration of study + 1 tolerance semester (extensions are only granted for valid reasons; see next section) 
    – Outstanding academic performance during the evaluation period (grade point average ≤ 2.0) 
    – Fulfillment of special criteria specified in the call for applications (e.g., 50 ECTS credits per academic year) 
  • Can the eligibility period be extended?

    Yes, in the following documented cases ( § 19 of the Student Support Act; StudFG): 
    – Illness (medical certificate from a specialist) 
    – Pregnancy (1 semester) 
    – Care/raising of a child under 6 years old (maximum of 2 semesters per child) 
    – Disability (≥ 50% degree of disability, maximum of 2 semesters) 
    – Military or civilian service (1 semester for every 6 months of service) 
    – Ongoing legal proceedings for maintenance claims against a parent obligated to provide support (1 semester)

Application Process

  • How and where do I submit my application?

    The complete application must be submitted in paper form either by mail or in person to the faculty office of the DAS Faculty.

    Please note: Digital applications cannot be accepted. 
  • What documents are required for the application?

    The following documents are required: 

    – Fully completed application form
    – Current enrollment certificate 
    – Transcript of records (excluding recognized credits) for the relevant program of study. Please highlight the exams to be included in the GPA calculation! (Total: 50 ECTS credits) 
      Internal recognitions will not be considered. 

    – If applicable, recognition certificates for exams taken externally (in copy) 
    – If applicable, proof of eligibility period extension (e.g., medical certificate) 
    – If applicable, proof of citizenship as per § 4 StudFG (in copy) (not required for EU citizens) 
    ___For third-country nationals: Proof of “Permanent Residence – EU” 
    ___For stateless persons: Official registration in Austria (applicant and one parent) 
    ___For refugees: Proof of refugee status (passport, official decision) 
  • What are the deadlines?

    The deadline for submitting applications for the 2024/25 academic year is October 31, 2025.

Awarding and Payment

  • Who decides on the awarding of the scholarship?

    The Vice Rector for Education and Student Experience decides on the awarding and number of performance-based scholarships, based on the funds allocated by the Federal Ministry of Education, Science, and Research. 

    Even if all requirements are met, there is no legal entitlement to a performance-based scholarship. 
  • What are the selection criteria?

    If the number of applicants meeting the requirements exceeds the number of scholarships available, ranking will be based on academic performance (GPA of the required ECTS credits; academic progress). 
  • When and how is the scholarship paid out?

    The scholarship is paid out as a one-time payment. The payment will be made during the following semester, and applicants will be notified of the decision in writing.
