Nutrition in Cancer Therapy – NuCaT (ITAT-11-035)
The goal of the NuCaT project is to create a transnational platform for the development, monitoring, and validation of targeted nutritional therapies for cancer, with a focus on fasting-mimicking diets (FMDs). FMDs are safe, scientifically developed diets that mimic the effects of fasting while allowing for limited food intake. FMDs improve the response to cancer therapy by altering cellular metabolism and the tumor microenvironment, weakening tumor cells, promoting the immune response, and improving patients’ well-being. The platform will track patient responses at the molecular and cellular levels, validate their impact on treatment response, and accelerate research toward refined treatment strategies. NuCaT will strengthen collaboration between Italian and Austrian institutions and companies in the fields of genetics, molecular biology, biotechnology, and clinical research to accelerate the integration of nutritional systems into cancer therapies in the project region.
