Use and borrowing

Who can use the library?

  • The University Library of Salzburg (UBS) is open to all interested parties: teachers, students, pupils, and general users can use our collections and services.
  • Use of the library is free of charge.
  • Use of the library is subject to the terms of use.

What do I need to borrow media?

  • University members: Teachers, students, and employees of the University of Salzburg automatically have a user account. Your service card or student ID card is also your library card.
  • External users: School pupils and other interested persons must apply for a library card online in order to borrow media.

What collections are available and how can I use them?

The University Library of Salzburg has a hybrid collection of media: approximately 2.4 million physical copies (books, journals, DVDs, CDs, etc.) and hundreds of thousands of electronic media (e-books, e-journals). The physical collection can be used on the library premises and, in most cases, can also be borrowed. Access to the library’s electronic collection is available within the university network (on PCs and via the university’s Wi-Fi). In addition, all teachers, students, and employees of the University of Salzburg can access the electronic collections remotely (VPN) from home. All users also have the option of ordering media that are not in our collection from other libraries via interlibrary loan for a fee.

What else can I do in the library?

In addition to providing literature and a wide variety of information media, the library’s twelve locations also offer a variety of different work and learning environments. In addition, all branch libraries are equipped with copiers and printers, computers, and free book scanners.
