Research and Borrowing at the University Library Salzburg

Do you need scientific literature? Then you’ve come to the right place!
We offer you the opportunity to use the approximately 2.4 million physical and hundreds of thousands of electronic media in our collection. If that’s not enough, you can also access numerous licensed and freely accessible research databases and scientific journals via our search portals.

The best place to start your search is in our search engine ( UBsearch), as it gives you immediate access to our holdings. If the search results are insufficient, use the search engine of the  Austrian Library Network to access the holdings of all academic libraries in Austria. You can order books from other academic libraries via interlibrary loan. You can also search for additional research databases via  DBIS or for digital journals via the  EZB to find exactly the literature you need.

You can also borrow most of our collection. However, you should check where the specific item is located: the university library is divided into a main library and eleven branch libraries. The branch libraries are open-access libraries, which means that the collections are arranged according to a classification system on freely accessible shelves. This means you can browse the collections yourself on site and take books from the shelves. The main library, on the other hand, is a storage library where the collections are kept in a non-accessible storage area. If you need a book from the main library, you must order it via  UBsearch.
