What will I learn?
In the BSc degree course in Psychology, students gain basic knowledge of the empirical research, description and explanation of human behaviour and experience under consideration of its biological and sociocultural base. Furthermore, students learn how to apply their psychological knowledge to create humane living and working conditions, and to deal professionally with psychosocial problems. This course in Psychology at the University of Salzburg offers a scientific education, which provides future psychologists with general basic skills. It does not offer practical experience, it is not a professional training for clinical psychologists or psychotherapists, and it is not intended for self-therapy.
What makes Salzburg so special as a place to study?
The research achievements of the Department of Psychology at the University of Salzburg and its partner institutes are considerable in national, but above all also in international comparison. Therefore, the University of Salzburg has established cognitive neuroscience as one of three research emphases at the University: at the Centre for Cognitive Neuroscience (CCNS). This research emphasis studies the relations between behaviour and brain activity with all neurocognitive methods such as fMRI/MRI, EEG, TMS, eye tracking and a magnetoencephalographer (MEG), which has been the only operating device in Austria since 2016.
Which career opportunities do I have?
The BSc degree course in Psychology imparts theoretical subject matter, diagnostical and empirical skills and competences. The course provides students with an overview of the various areas of psychological research and application and imparts fundamental methodological competences, which are important for students’ further qualification in professional areas as well as advanced scientific studies. On the one hand, this course forms the basis for a scientific specialization in the subsequent Master’s course; on the other hand, it imparts basic competences for analysing problems concerning the human environment and working life. Due to the large number of psychological areas of research and application, possible occupations for graduates are diverse. Therefore, there is no standard career for graduates of Psychology.
